The first week was full of doctor's appointments and home nurse visits as we worked through some newborn jaundice and slow weight gain. Emma spent the first several days in a light bed for the jaundice.
Here is a photo of her on the light bed. Check out how yellow her skin is.
In addition to the high bilirubin levels, the doctor was concerned that she had not gained enough weight. So we spent the next week feeding her as much as possible and going to the doctor for weight checks.
We are determined that Emma doesn't like the doctor because she gained ridiculous amounts of weight after that initial visit so that she could stop going and just hang out with Mom and Dad at home. At the last doctor's visit a week and a half ago, she was up to 9 1/2 pounds. She has chunked up for sure and finally moved out of the newborn clothes and into her 0-3 month outfits.
After the last sleep deprived seven weeks, John and I are getting the hang of this parent thing and are enjoying our new family of 5.
What a great idea! Can't wait to see more. Love, Mom
